You've been listening to music from The People's Orchestra!

The People’s Orchestra performing film pieces composed by John Koutselinis – War of the Titans, Beyond the Skies, Flight of the Pegasus and Clash Of The Worlds.
And joined by the People’s Show Choir singing covers from their Legends Symphonica project – All Of Me, Like A Prayer, Feeling Good, Rule The World and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

Established in 2012 and based in Sandwell in the West Midlands, The People’s Orchestra represents musicians from every socio-economic and ethnic background, from teens to seniors, who come together to share the joy of music making. Known for its musical excellence, in 2016 the orchestra was chosen as one of the five best and most inspiring amateur orchestras in the country and took part in the BBC’s All Together Now: Great Orchestra Challenge.

It’s more than an orchestra though.

The People’s Orchestra is an award-winning music charity that helps unemployed people back into work through work experience placements, education programmes and community outreach work. The volunteering roles assist in the day-to-day running of the charity, which supports the main orchestra (The People’s Orchestra), an intermediate level orchestra aimed at people returning to playing after a break or taking up an instrument as an adult (Rusty Players), and a network of show choirs (The People’s Show Choir).

The People’s Show Choir was set up in 2018 to bring together local communities across Birmingham and the Black Country through singing, and is the choral arm of The People’s Orchestra charity.

The People’s Show Choir mostly perform music from the worlds of film and stage, in a fun and supportive environment. The choir comes together with the full orchestra twice each year for spectacular concerts. There are localised choirs in multiple locations across the region, including some further afield, such as Cheltenham and Northamptonshire, along with full online access to music and rehearsals if you can’t make it to an in-person choir.

The People’s Orchestra are an inclusive not-for-profit community orchestra who believe that music can change the lives of everyday people for the better. They play contemporary music from the worlds of music, stage and film in a non-judgemental, supportive environment. They do not have limits on how many people can play each instrument and there are no auditions to join!

They also operate a Rusty Players Orchestra for those who may have not picked up an instrument in a while or want to build up more confidence in their ability.

If this sounds like something you would like to get involved with, you can go along to a free taster session. Alternatively, you can send them a message through their website.
